DUSTY BLUES AND PINKISH HUES

November 24, 2017

Ahh winter, fall's much much colder sister. Although the temperatures drop we still love a glam winter wedding! Jewel tones and soft hues are everywhere and a fresh fallen snow is the perfect backdrop! Can't you just picture it now?!

For this styled shoot the focus was on rethinking what a winter wedding should be. The more traditional take on a winter wedding might go something like this: a deep red cranberry with dark evergreens and a pop of gold. Not that there is anything wrong with that color combo but it does follow that traditional Christmas vibe that is often associated with winter.

This color scheme is fresh! Different shades of blue, from navy to dusty hues are complemented with maroon and blush. Blush has become the color of all seasons. The light pink is the favorite "neutral" of brides everywhere.

If you are planning a winter wedding and are looking to take a non-traditional route when it comes to color, look to these photos for major inspiration! Starting with the invitation suite from Paper Love Club. Water color is a modern and subtle way to add your wedding colors to your invites. The soft blue color works well against the clean white paper and adding in a pop with the maroon envelope adds a new note the breaks up the reoccurring color.

Flowers are one of the best ways to show your style and colors. Paying attention to seasonal blooms is key when picking your bouquets and center pieces. Adding in juniper berries, twigs and branches and textured leaves  will make your bouquets feel seasonal without being overdone.

Navy suits are a popular choice for grooms year round. Based on the time of the year that hue and depth of the color changes. When planning a winter wedding opt for your groom to were a midnight tone. Something on the verge of black and blue will keep formality in mind and also keep the color scheme cohesive. The Tux from Savvy Formalwear hits the nail on the head with this midnight tux.

Hair and makeup for a winter wedding can be a tricky thing to nail down. Realistically if you love it wear it! But there has been a shift in trends. Traditionally we've seen brides wear their hair up in an intricate tousled bun of some sorts, now we are seeing much more relaxed hair with an interesting focal point like a cool braid or fresh flowers. Tamara Holden nailed this look by keeping lots of movement in the hair while still making it feel traditional and bridal. As for makeup the easiest way to transition your wedding look to a winter wedding look is deepening the lip. Going for a deeper nude, mauve or berry will not only give a nod to the season but will make you pop even more!

Color has become a popular trend in bridal for the dress. Brides are opting for dresses with a slight hue to combat feeling like Snow White in the middle of winter. The Wtoo Audrey dress is perfect for a winter fairytale wedding. The slight blush tone is complimented by scattered ivory lace appliques with a patina colored thread surrounding each one.

The last thing to make sure your winter wedding is the most memorable it can be is choosing the right photographer. Alexandrea Lee Photography nails it again with her attention to detail and bright and airy photography style. Her photos always showcase the best of what makes you and yours YOU!
